Reviews - Want a REAL Life?
by Brent N. Sapp, MBA
In his new book, Now - Get A Real Life, author Jerry King (a.k.a. "The Attitude Doctor") offers a fresh, practical, and motivational path to, as he describes, "create the fulfilling life you were born to live." King draws on his extensive experience as a professional speaker and storyteller to provide a seven step process that pokes directly into the side of complacent thinking, eating, believing, and yes, living. He defines "real living" as a choice, a decision the reader should make to "snap out of the hypnotic trance of mediocrity."
The chapters are bite size, but meaty; each one a cohesive thought that could well serve as a "thought for the day" in any busy schedule. King’s journey to a Real Life includes milestones such as:
- Break Through the Belief Barrier
- Use Your Mind to Create Divine Destiny
- Create and Cultivate Meaningful Relationships
- Shape Up, Stifle Stress and Become Your Best
- Maximize Your Moments
- Enjoy the Ride
- Go for the 'Goal'
King stresses the importance of recognizing individual worth and participation in the context of team effort. Humor is also hallmark of real living, and King is an expert at illustrating both triumph and tragedy with what he refers to as "The Lighter Side". A Real Life doesn’t come without effort, however, and King includes Personal Practice Points to enable his readers to put feet to the principles he describes.
Now - Get A Real Life isn’t Tolstoy or Twain, but it is a lively guide to a balanced existence that can move an individual from the mundane to the miraculous. In a world where reflection is in short supply, and hope even more scarce, the Attitude Doctor writes a prescription to treat not only the symptoms of mediocrity, but also cure the spread of indifference. So I ask again, "Want a real life?"
